Installing Dictilo

1. Download Dictilo from dictilo.com. It runs on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 and later), on macOS 14 or later.
2. Open the downloaded file, drag Dictilo to the Applications folder, then launch it. It lives in the menu bar, at the top of the screen.
3. On first launch, allow the microphone, so it can hear you, and Accessibility, so it can type in your apps. Dictilo's settings show the status of both. If you declined, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and turn Dictilo on under “Microphone” and “Accessibility”.

Signing in

Enter your email address: you receive a 6-digit code, valid for 10 minutes. No code? Check your spam folder, check the address you typed, then ask for a new code. Your account is created the first time you sign in, with no password.

Dictating

Put your cursor where you want to write, in any app. Hold the dictation key, speak, then let go: the text is typed at your cursor. A recording lasts 120 seconds at most. To cancel a dictation in progress, press another key. You can change the dictation key and the language in Dictilo's settings.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps does Dictilo type in? Anywhere you can type with a keyboard: messaging, word processors, browsers, notes.

Which languages does it recognise? In automatic mode, Dictilo recognises the language you speak. You can also choose it in the settings.

Nothing is typed when I let go of the key. Check that Dictilo is allowed under “Accessibility” (System Settings, Privacy & Security), and that a text field is selected. A silent recording is not sent.

What happens after 2,000 words? On the free plan, dictation stops until the following Monday. With Dictilo Pro, there is no limit.

Do I need a card to try Pro? No. You get 14 days of Pro when you create your account, with no card.

Is Dictilo available on Windows, iPhone or Android? Coming soon. Leave your email on the home page and we will tell you as soon as Dictilo arrives on your device.

Subscription and invoices

In the Dictilo menu, choose “Gérer mon abonnement” (Manage my subscription): you can cancel, change your card, switch between monthly and yearly, and find your invoices. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period: you keep Dictilo Pro until then. Everything is set out in the terms of sale.

Deleting your account

In the app, open the settings and choose “Supprimer mon compte…” (Delete my account). You can also write to contact@antony-rouxel.com from your account's address. Deletion erases your account, sessions, counters and referral links, cancels your subscription and removes your payment method. Your customer record at Stripe (email address and invoices) is kept for our accounting obligations. Details are in the app privacy policy.

Uninstalling Dictilo

1. In the Dictilo menu, sign out: your sign-in token is then deleted from your Mac's keychain and from our server.
2. Quit Dictilo, then drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
3. If you wish, remove Dictilo from “Microphone” and “Accessibility” in System Settings.

Uninstalling the app does not delete your account or cancel a subscription: see above for that.
